About This Tool

I built Text Sorter because I got tired of manually organizing lists. You know the drill—copying names, sorting lines in a text file, trying to keep things in order while juggling five other tabs. It’s annoying. So I made something simple that just… works.

Text Sorter takes whatever text you paste in—names, items, random notes—and sorts it alphabetically. No login, no ads, no tracking. Just paste, click, and get a clean list back. It runs in your browser, so nothing leaves your device. Honestly, it’s the kind of tool I wish existed years ago.

Key Features

  • Alphabetical sorting – Sorts lines A to Z (or Z to A if you flip the option).
  • Removes duplicates – Automatically strips out repeated lines so your list stays clean.
  • Case-insensitive – Treats "Apple" and "apple" as the same, so you don’t get weird ordering.
  • Preserves line breaks – Each item stays on its own line, just like you’d expect.
  • Works offline – Once the page loads, you don’t need internet. Great for quick edits on the go.
  • No data stored – Everything happens locally. Your text never gets sent anywhere.

FAQ

Does it work with numbers or special characters?
Yeah, it handles numbers, symbols, and mixed content just fine. It sorts based on standard character order, so numbers come before letters, and symbols like @ or # show up first. If you’ve got a weird mix, it’ll still sort it—just maybe not how you’d expect. Test it out if you’re unsure.

Can I undo a sort if I mess up?
Not really. There’s no undo button, so if you overwrite your original text, it’s gone. My advice? Keep a copy of the unsorted version somewhere else before you hit sort. Better safe than sorry.
